About the Author Besides being an artist of considerable reputation, Erle Loran was Professor of Art at the University of California, Berkeley. Richard Shiff holds the Effie Marie Cain Regents Chair in Art and directs the Center for the Study of Modernism at the University of Texas, Austin. His books include Cézanne and the End of Impressionism (1984).
